I found my Warden... manual. And my Inmate's files. I don't think this is real-- I don't-- but... at least this place is beginning to make some sense.

The ship is magic. The Wardens can take away the inmates doors when they do something wrong. Like locking them in. Only, The thing the other inmate's been locked up for happened like, months ago before his Warden was even assigned, and he didn't even check If I was in here and now I'm stuck.

Ralph got into a fight with someone months ago because he thought they wrote some demeaning pornography about him.

He doesn't like his Warden because Jim said he killed his wife where everyone could see it and he didn't.

...How can I fix this? I locked Ralph up for a week. Any attempts to extract your Inmate would free him, too.

You put the door back! If you exercise control over your Inmate, no, it wouldn't free him. You subdue him and put him back into the room if he tries to get out. My Inmate's not going to be punished for your errors.

--and is it really ethical to lock somebody up in solitary confinement for a week?
