I just wanted to, uh... apologise to anyone I shouted at or insulted [WITH CULTURALLY INSENSITIVE REMARKS ABOUT CLOTHES] in port. I wasn't-- My head wasn't on straight that day. Y'know how it goes, with the, ah... interdimensional travel. Thanks for trying to clue me in.
[Private to Prefect]
Right. Let's talk. About... everything. All the stuff that I missed. I want you to meet me on the deck.
[Warden Filter]
I was sort of thinking, to go along with the weekly reports... Maybe we should try sounding off, in one post, together, after every port and flood. Just a status update on ourselves, our inmates-- nothing personal, I mean, about their progress or anything confidential, just a quick "Here, alive" or "In Zero" or "Turned into a duck"-- y'know, to keep us all on the same page, keep the lines of communication open. It'll take... five seconds, tops, to pen a response to the roll call. And if someone doesn't, then we can follow up, make sure they or their inmate's all right.

Prefect. [He offers him a slight smile, then turns to the door to the above-deck levels.] C'mon. We're gonna talk in the CES, but... I want to try something different this time.
[THIS TIME.. he wants to see what will show up if Prefect goes in first.]

And I think that's a very good idea.
and if anyone actually objects to it, I am in a mind to punch them. Also, it should go without saying that if you know someone is, say, dead, that informing each other is easier than trying to track them down. Unless you're the infirmary staff, which have their own reasons, I know. Although 'so and so is in the infirmary' is as good a response as any.Re: warden filter.
Right. Just a head count is better than we've got right now.

Though I am happy to announce that reports of duck-related mischief have steadily decreased in the past few months.

I think that's one of the few good ideas I've seen since I arrived here. Quick, practical, and not a threat to anyone's independence or authority.
[Narvin really likes the idea of reporting to *someone* even if it's the group as a whole. Even if his reports may not be entirely truthful all the time, he likes the sense of organization that writing a short report brings.]

Thanks. I have to admit, the positive reception's... not something I've come to expect here. [His voice is SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. And then, a muttered aside:] Or in 1973.
[Warden Filter]
I'm glad you're back, and yourself.
[Warden Filter]
Thanks. It's... I'm surprised to be saying this, but it's good to be back. [Pause.] How's the kitten?

Y'know... I reckon this is the first time we've gotten unanimous approval on something...

I seem to be rambling. How are you, Sam Tyler? You seemed rather shaken up when we talked at port.
Private
Better, thanks, Doctor. It looks like I'm doing a hell of a lot better than the rest of the Barge. [Muttering:] For once.
