078 - [Filtered to SECURITY and CID] i spell good

Alright then, as we all know, there's been a rash of theft. Problem is, given when this has occurred, we can't say yet if somebody did this during the flood, or afterwards. So far, there isn't much in common between the missing items, except that they're small and easy to conceal, for the most part. New items are added in bold:
  • Earrings and bracelet - Lt. Uhura
  • Three vinyls - myself
  • A compass - Lara Croft
  • A flask and necklace - Serena... something
  • A black lab coat - the Doctor (the non-Time Lord Doctor)
  • Bottle of perfume. Mitsouko, by Guerlain. Nearly full - Una Persson
  • Drawing pad - Jason Dean

It's worth noting that when the complaint about the coat came up, Loki was the first to respond-- pointing the finger at Sam Winchester, Jason Dean, and T'Pol. A nice, random assortment there. Given his past behaviour, I'd make him a key suspect, although... I'll admit that he may have a point with the kid. Petty theft is the sort of thing an adolescent would get into.

As for the offers to help from Inmates, I wouldn't take 'em up on it unless their Wardens vouched for them. It's best to keep the investigation small. They can volunteer any information they may have, but I wouldn't give them any responsibilities, and I certainly wouldn't encourage those particular volunteers to go looking for information their own way. I don't trust them for a second.

[Private to Prefect] (Added later, so all of the comments below with no subject lines? ARE SET TO THE ABOVE FILTER; they're not public.)

Prefect, I've got a question for you.

[OOC: FOR THE RECORD: from now on if Sam uses a filter marked "CID" it stands for "Criminal Investigation Department", which was what he was in as a cop. So, the people on the CID filter would be: himself, Annie, Sgt. Howie, and Spencer Reid

EDIT: Sam's not sure if the drawing pad was really stolen, or if JD's just doing what Howie asked him, SO IT'S ON THE LIST UNTIL HE'S TOLD OTHERWISE]

Jason Dean is known already for pointless, petty theft. He stole things of mine at least two or three times, and returned them when I asked after them.

I would say, given the odd and arbitrary collection of items, it's possible he did it. But he seems to do it to people he knows. I believe he also stole something off Castiel quite a while ago.

I don't know if you or any of the others have talked to him much, though.

Not necessarily when I asked, but he never kept them for long after I realised they were missing and always returned them of his own accord. He does get on with me, relatively, yes. He lives next door, and if he's going to be randomly stealing things, I would have thought I'd be the first place he went, and nothing of mine is missing.

I don't think he will. At least, if he did, it would possibly be to the ones he talks to regularly. I'm not sure how many inmates he really talks to often. Iago was an exception, I think, rather than a rule.

I think I could persuade him not to mention it to anyone else, though.

[identity profile] kingfor-aday.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright, I'll go do that and tell you if I find anything out.

On the point below about asking the inmates, you could see if any of them do go and ask other inmates volunteering help to help them. It's quite possible that they're likely to ask a fellow inmate to help instead.

[identity profile] kingfor-aday.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the difficulty. They may, though, talk to one of them publicly about it, or on something inmates only could see.

Which would then mean some of the more trustworthy inmates could see it. Shego being a prime example. We don't have to entirely rely on information directly from Swing or Sylar, then.

[identity profile] kingfor-aday.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true. Although I'm not sure any of them would truly trust either of them any more than we would.

I wasn't exactly suggesting we got them to make an enquiry for us, but given that one of them already has, we should probably keep an eye on that. Mainly so nobody else gives him that illusion of power, but also as that might help us get some information. Maybe. I think it'd be far more productive to ask Shego or JD to enquire after it, though, you're right.

[identity profile] kingfor-aday.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
And I'll ask JD if he can ask after things as well.

Is that everything or is it possible we're missing more and just haven't noticed?

[identity profile] autistic-genius.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Should we inquired publicly?

[identity profile] autistic-genius.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
If nothing else, there might be a discernible pattern to what was taken.

[identity profile] autistic-genius.livejournal.com 2009-12-06 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Good idea.
