Nevermind.

Prefect and I are okay, so... We'll be in the Infirmary for a few days.

[OOC: And if anybody wants to hang out with Sam, he's sort of stuck in one of the beds, death tollin' it up in here. He looks pouty. And emo.]

Hey, I heard what happened.

How are you holding up?

My head's killing me, not to mention the rest of me... But I'm alive, at least.

How about you?

I'm a bit bruised, but nothing sleep and painkillers can't cure.

I hear you tried to get some sort of system in place for the wardens here once? What happened with that?

It went nowhere. I tried to open things up for discussion, to get some sort of dialogue going, but it was the usual: nobody wanted to admit that their way wasn't perfect, so we never got anywhere. Suggestions were laughed off, or met with incredible defensiveness and resistance.

One Warden did try to implement progress reports, however. We all participated in that for a bit, but it fell by the wayside.

I still think we can do something, though, if we all just work together. If the Inmates could, there's nothing stopping us from doing the same, you know?

The inmates have their mutual hatred for us. We have to find a common factor to match their unity. Maybe we can use this event as the incentive to get more cooperation?

Yeah, if anything, this event has to show the rest of 'em that we cannot afford to continue as we were.

Problem is, some Wardens see this as strictly a punitive place. It's... not gonna be easy to convince 'em otherwise, after this mess.

I think a highly informative and educational seminar is in order.

Right. We've got that new meeting room for a reason, after all. Might as well have a sit-down while most of the Inmates are locked up.

Think the injured in our ranks are well enough to attend if we hold a meeting soon?

Give me a few days, and I'll be back on my feet. I think the same goes for the others.

[Once she's done visiting level 0, she checks her comm and sees this message from Sam. Next stop.

She comes empty handed, and looks tired and worn. Nevertheless, she smiles when she sees him, although the relief is mixed with a hefty dose of sorrow ]

Sam...

[She hesitates, wondering if it's okay to hug him]

[Sam looks up, offers Rose a smile, looking about as terrible as he feels]

Hey.

[He gives a weak wave]

Glad you made it out ali-- [He hesitates] all right.

[Oh sod it... she bites her lip and gives him a hug, closing her eyes.]

You're alive...

[Her voice breaks, and she swallows]

I saw you, and Prefect... I got there right after he...

[He puts one arm around Rose, returning the hug as best he can]

Don't really feel like I am. [He laughs a little] But yeah. Prefect is, too.

[He rubs her back comfortingly]

I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to've seen that. They didn't hurt you, did they?

Just some nasty rope burns.

Charlie took me prisoner at gunpoint. With this...

[She pulled the gun Charlie was using out of her bag and handed it to Sam]

I think it's yours...

[Sam feels a bit sick at the sight of the gun, swallows it, and looks away]

I can't-- not right now, while I'm in here. I don't want anyone getting hold of it.

[After a pause]

Could you give it to somebody for safekeeping, at least til I'm better? Jack, maybe, or Angel, if he's... not... tiny.

[Oh.

Oh. Right.

Bloody brilliant, Rose.

She slips it back in her bag.]

I'll give it to Jack. Just let him know when you want it back.

Thanks.

[He offers her another smile]

Sorry about that. So... Charlie didn't try to hurt you? That's... an improvement. [Lame joke. He tries to laugh]

Probably figured he'd have more fun watching the other wardens shoot me when they stormed the cafeteria...

God... [He hadn't realised that was the plan] Did they? I mean, not you, but... the others? The Wardens didn't shoot anybody, right?

I don't think so... but I know someone was using me as a human shield.

[Sam looks at Rose with new worry in his eyes] Who did that? Do you know?

[She shook her head]

I didn't recognize the voice.

[He sighs]

Well, best we can hope is that he's in Zero right now.

Seems likely. I think near all the inmates who were involved are.

[He laughs a little]

Well, this is a fine mess we'll have on our hands, yeah? I can't imagine a mass lock-down will do wonders for Warden-Inmate relations.

I... think the Admiral's plan is the best we can hope for to go on from here... but already several inmates are chafing against it.

I agree, yeah. At least, this gives us time to regroup and think about things, figure out how it came to this, before they come back.

Why the hell is Prefect in the infirmary?

Because he was murdered.

I don't know. I know what I want to do, but I don't know if I'll do it.

Harvey, if my telling you means that there will be even more violence on this Barge, I can't do it. I trust you completely, but you may not always be in control.

Sam, don't tell me. I know what I'll do if I know who did it.

Well... I know Prefect would love to see you right now, if you're up for it.

He's in the infirmary, isn't he?
